1925——Tsinghua School instituted its university section and initiated the studies of Chinese Classics.The Department of Chinese Language and Literature involved from the Chinese curriculum team.

1926——Different departments were founded within the university section of Tsinghua School and the Chinese Department was initiated.

1928——Tsinghua School changed its name to ‘Tsinghua National University’. The Department of Chinese Language and Literature was founded and belonged to the School of Literature.

1937——Tsinghua University moved south to Changsha where the three departments Chinese language and literature of Tsinghua University, Beijing University and Nankai University were jointed as the Chinese department of the temporary Changsha University.

1938——The temporary Changsha University moved to Kunming and changed its name to the Southwest Associated University.

1946——The period of the Southwest Associated University terminated. Tsinghua University moved back to Peking and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature resumed operation.

1952——Because of the nationwide restructuring of institutes of higher education, the Chinese Department of Tsinghua University was merged into Peking University.
